The Alertys OnFarm Pregnancy Test detects pregnancy-associated glycoproteins (PAGs) in whole blood (EDTA) as early as 28 days postbreeding and 70 days postcalving.

Description

OnFarm Cattle Pregnancy Test

The AlertysTM OnFarm Pregnancy Test is a rapid method for the detection of pregnancy-associated glycoproteins (PAGs) in whole blood (EDTA), plasma (EDTA) or serum of cows and heifers as a marker for pregnancy. Accurate and timely detection of pregnancy is an essential component of today’s bovine reproductive management programs.

Veterinarians and farmers use early detection of nonpregnant (open) cows and heifers to enable faster rebreeding and shorten the calving interval, thereby maximizing new stock and revenue for the farm.

The Alertys OnFarm Pregnancy Test detects pregnancy-associated glycoproteins (PAGs) in whole blood (EDTA) as early as 28 days postbreeding and 70 days postcalving. Test cow side, on your schedule

Use this on-farm pregnancy test to:
  • Increase safety for you and your workers.
  • Find open animals in minutes.
  • Read results easily to make decisions quickly.
  • Decrease subjectivity and time spent training.

Value of pregnancy

What do I need for this test?
The Alertys OnFarm Pregnancy Test includes 25 tests. Additionally, you will need blood-collection supplies (i.e., needles, EDTA tubes and holders).

What does the Alertys OnFarm Pregnancy Test detect?

The test detects pregnancy-specific proteins called pregnancy- associated glycoproteins (PAGs). These specific proteins are expressed in the embryonic regions of the placenta and are detected in maternal fluids, such as blood and milk.

What types of samples can be run using the Alertys OnFarm Pregnancy Test?

The Alertys OnFarm Pregnancy Test has been developed to perform robustly on EDTA whole blood, plasma, or serum of cattle. However whole blood testing is the most common sample and highly recommended for convenience.

Can the test tell me the stage of gestation, the sex of the calf, or whether the cow is carrying multiple calves?

No, the test will provide a pregnant, nonpregnant, or recheck result. It cannot indicate the stage of gestation, the sex of the calf, or whether the cow is carrying multiple calves.

Does the Alertys OnFarm Pregnancy Test still detect PAGs after early embryonic death or after abortion?

Yes, PAGs will circulate in blood for a certain period of time after embryonic loss or abortion. For early embryonic loss, we estimate PAGs will disappear within 6−10 days. In case of late- term abortion, PAGs may be present for a longer period of time (40−70 days). It should be noted that it can take up to 70 days for PAGs to drop below the test threshold postcalving.

Can this test be used on all breeds of cattle?

Yes, this test will work on all breeds of bovine species.

I have a bull in my herd or use a bull at the end of my artificial insemination period. How does the test work in this situation?

You can use the test, but you must apply rules around testing. For example, test 50 days after the cow is put with the bull (21 days for heat, plus 28 days to the earliest test), or test 28 days after the bull leaves the herd. Remember, the test must be
performed at least 28 days after service. If the bull is running with the herd all the time, you may need to test monthly, but note that the test will not tell you how far along the cow’s pregnancy is.
