Is a naturally occurring, soft, siliceous sedimentary rock that is sold crumbled into a fine white to off-white powder. It is the fossilized remains of microscopic shells of freshwater plankton Algae/plants called DIATOMS. Basically dried Diatom Shells.

Another name for Diatomaceous Earth is Fossil Shell Flour.

When insects come in contact with DE, their protective waxy layer is desiccated, stripped away and death is by dehydration. These products do not contain persistent chemicals harmful to the environment and to higher forms of life such as birds and mammals. Although not harmful to animals or the environment generally, it may be harmful to fish.

How to use diatomaceous earth for chickens

  • Treating lice and mites, by adding DE to the dust bath or dusting birds
  • Killing insects in the chicken coop, by sprinkling it around problem areas such as cracks where mites and lice may hide or breed
  • Reducing the smell of chicken droppings

How to use diatomaceous earth for horses

  • DE is known to reduce internal and external worms and parasites in horses
  • Providing a boost of minerals such as calcium and magnesium to support a healthier digestion
  • Great absorbent and will act to reduce odours in manures
