FENUGREEK – Trigonella-foenum-graecum

Fenugreek is a strongly aromatic herb, and the not only the seeds but the whole plant can be used. It contains a volatile oil, flavonoids, mucilage, protein, Vitamins A, B & C, alkaloids, saponins and some minerals. The seeds can aid in recovery from illness and to encourage weight gain. They can also help in lowering a fever, and can also increase breast milk production. It is also thought to be antidiabetic and to help lower blood cholesterol levels.

Fenugreek is a great conditioning herb for horses particularly, if your horse has lost condition after a spell or serious injury. Fenugreek is a good general tonic that addresses every body system. Juliette De Bairacli Levy writes: “Fenugreeks chemical composition closely resembles cod liver oil. It is the perfect ‘sister’ herb for garlic, enhancing all the latent and remarkable powers for that supreme herb, especially increasing its disinfectant properties.

WARNING: Do not feed to pregnant mares as it may stimulate uterus contractions.
